This is a picture taken of me and my wife Dr Michelle P. Lee during a lunch in Maceio, Brazil with Professor Zezito de Araujo, Professor of Black Culture at the University of Alogoras. He also wrote a book on Quilombos and his daughter is assisting me with further work on my book on the same subject. The restaurant where the lunch was held, is owned by a Black Afro-Brazilian woman. We had a great time. Professor Araujo was instrumental in Quilombo dos Palmares being established in Maceio.

Defiant to the end! This picture is that of 2 members of the leadership team of the Quilombo Do Carmo outside of Sao Paulo, Brazil in front an old slave quarters house. I was there for a post publication research field trip recently. The man on my left is the current leader and the woman next to him is in training to be leader. Quilombos exist all over Brazil. They are communities established by slaves who refused to be enslaved, their descendants continue to fight on.

This is a painting by a Brazilian artist depicting the journey from slavery to freedom by the Africancans who were enslaved in Brazil from the end of the 16th century to the end of the 19th century. This painting was hidden from the public until a decade or so. It is on display in Recife, the capital of Pernambuco in Northeast Brazil. I am here conducting post publication primarily research regarding by book.
